If you’re one of those who keeps up to date with our daily news recap in the Morning Spice, then you would know that Jamie Spears has officially been suspended from his daughter’s conservatorship.
Britney’s no-nonsense attorney, Mathew Rosengart, described Mr Spears as a “cruel, toxic and abusive man” per CNN.
Finally, during the Wednesday hearing, the judge made the call to immediately suspend Mr Spears from the conservatorship that has controlled Britney’s personal life and finances for 13 years.
Rosengart further argued that his client’s wellbeing was at stake and that she would be “extraordinarily distraught” if he remained in control of her estate.
After repeatedly testifying against her “abusive” father, this is a big win for the pop singer.
Although, the conservatorship itself is not null yet.
The Guardian has more:
Jamie, who was overseeing his daughter’s estate, is being replaced by John Zabel, a certified public accountant chosen by Britney Spears’ team, the judge ruled. Zabel will be stepping up as a temporary fiduciary conservator.
The judge also set a hearing for 12 November for the parties to discuss full termination of the conservatorship, which Britney Spears, her father and others involved in the arrangement have said they support.
If the conservatorship is successfully dissolved, Britney’s assets will be returned to her control, which means she will no longer require a professional conservator to oversee her every move.
A conservatorship is typically a very difficult situation to get fully out of, but everyone involved seems keen to get this one over with.
As for Jamie Spears?
He will need to hand over financial records to the replacement conservator that may reveal “revelations” of his “corruption”.
Mr Spears is accused of siphoning millions from his daughter’s estate into his own account, taking more money for himself per month than he would give to Britney as her allowance.
He also did other “unfathomable” things:
Jamie Spears will also face questions about the allegations in a recent New York Times documentary that he had hired a security firm that was secretly surveilling his daughter’s phone, recording her conversations in her bedroom and monitoring fans who protested to end the conservatorship.
Rosengart said law enforcement would determine whether any criminal conduct occurred.
For now, though, he is no longer in charge of her finances, or anything else in her personal life for that matter.
In a way, then, Britney can be considered somewhat free.
Just a reminder before you’re off that the latest documentary covering all this, Britney vs. Spears, is currently on Netflix now.
