2020 will be remembered for many reasons, very few of which are fond.
It was the year the world properly started the battle against COVID-19, and on we go.
Perhaps the most famous on-screen battle of the year involved Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic (or Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, to use his real name), as documented in Tiger King.
Joe Exotic is still in prison, although his sentence could be reduced after a rare win in court last month.
As it stands, though, Carole Baskin is having the last laugh, because the Oklahoma property which was at the centre of Tiger King‘s filming will no longer be used to cage animals.
NewsAU below:
Baskin of Big Cat Rescue, has sold the Oklahoma property and one of the provisions is that the land can’t be used as a zoo for 100 years…
Big Cat Rescue was awarded control over the animal park in Wynnewood by a judge in 2020, part of the settlement in her longstanding trademark lawsuit against the flamboyant former zookeeper…
The last remaining animals at the zoo, which once housed as many as 1400 big cats, were turned over to the Justice Department earlier this month.
So Baskin took control and ownership of Joe’s former property and then sold it for $140 000, with the provision that it can longer be a zoo.
Meanwhile, Joe is locked up at a medical prison in Fort Worth, Texas, where he is battling cancer.
The man who is now behind bars always made it clear that he was after fame, and the success of Tiger King ensured that.
However, it also launched Baskin to stardom, and she has since appeared on Dancing with the Stars (she was terrible), as well as the recently released documentary The Conservation Game, which investigated the exotic big cat trade.
Here’s that trailer:
That will certainly raise Joe’s blood pressure.
Still, he will always have his iconic catchphrases (“that bitch”), and the truly bizarre music video for his song, ‘Here Kitty Kitty’.
