There’s been a surge in vaccination numbers since registration opened up for those between the ages of 18 and 34.
It’s good to see so many young folks going out to get the jab, which will ultimately protect themselves and others from this awful disease.
Businesses in South Africa are also hoping this momentum doesn’t drop and are supporting ways to keep the lines flowing and the jabs happening.
If the reason for not going to a vaccination site is based around the cost of travel, then Uber has your back.
As of August 25, Uber, the Department of Health, and Mastercard are working together to give people two free Uber trips, each up to the value of R100, for rides to and from vaccination sites.
Here’s Frans Hiemstra, Uber’s general manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, via Hyper Text:
“We applaud the Department of Health’s efforts to vaccinate the community and we would like to do our part, along with our partners, to support these efforts. Since the onset of the pandemic, we’ve been looking at how we can support our communities and prioritise their health and safety.”
This deal is ongoing until October 31, so there is still time to take advantage.
To qualify for the free ride, a trip must start or end at a select vaccination centre, which you can check on here.
But first and foremost, you have to register for the vaccination before you go to any of the locations, which you can do via the South African COVID-19 Vaccination Programme registration portal.
Then, here’s how to claim your trip:
Be sure to sanitise and mask up for the trip, to protect you and the Uber driver.
Also, don’t forget your ID, passport, asylum number, or refugee number so that you can get your vaccine once you have arrived.
For more information, you can head over to Uber.
