Months after offloading his Los Angeles mansion to Madonna, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) put some big dollars down for an upgrade, if that is even possible.
Not because of money, because he is A-OK on that front, but because, as Boss Hunting puts it, “Where do you go from here?”
His old pad had it all; fresh, white spaces with an outdoor pavilion and a neon-lit, mirrored-floor auto gallery.
But he’s moving on to bigger and brighter things with his new Bel-Air mansion, complete with orange gloss painted walls and a “bevvy of amenities”.
The chart-topping R&B singer put down a grand total of $70 million (more than R1 billion) for the 33 000-square foot property, sold to him by Dutch actor turned entrepreneur, Reinout Oerlemans:
…given how Reinout and wife Danielle Oerlemans had just forked out for an extensive renovation, ostensibly, they were here for the long haul.
Though true to his artistic persona, what The Weeknd wants, The Weeknd gets. And an offer that represents +227% of the previous purchase price is something you generally don’t pass up.
Architectural Digest is calling this one of the most expensive sales to take place in LA this year, which is a long way from where the property started:
The Oerlemans originally purchased the dwelling in 2015 for $21,4 million and spent 3 years adding 13 000 square feet [1207 square-metres] of space and many of the aforementioned [well, that’s still to come here] amenities.
They’re also responsible for the home’s contemporary look, a necessary change from its original early-2000s aesthetic.
It sparkles like the Queen’s crown at night:
Alright, back to that “bevvy of amenities”, all of which sits on a 1,6-acre lot overlooking the stunning Bel-Air Country Club.
There’s a gym, a movie theatre, a very necessary music studio, a sauna, a hammam, an indoor pool, a sports court, an outdoor infinity pool with a waterfall, and a dramatic split staircase leading from the upper patio to the lawn.
Let’s not forget the to-be iconic entertaining space with spray-painted high gloss orange walls and a black fireplace:
Or the formal dining room with a fireplace and coffered ceilings:
Or the kitchen, where there are copper cabinets with custom handles made from leather belts:
It looks like living it up is not just reserved for Saturday and Sunday if you are The Weeknd.
