In Twelve Minutes, a new interactive thriller video game conceived by Luis Antonio, a Rockstar Games and Ubisoft expert, you will hear the voices of James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe.

Over and over and over again, until you figure out the mystery, sift through the lies, and get to the end of the game where the ugly truth is revealed.

Players are forced to relive the same short span of time repeatedly, watching an unnamed man (voiced by McAvoy) repeatedly die at the hands of a murderous, pocket watch obsessed cop played by Dafoe, and listening to the same speech by the wife (Ridley).

Yep, repetition is the name of this game, but during each loop you’ll also pick up small clues to use in the next loop, allowing the plot to unfold to what is apparently an ending more outlandish than shocking, reports The Verge.

The whole game is played from a bird’s eye view, giving the player a full view of all three rooms – the living room, bathroom, bedroom, and a tiny closet that makes up the total universe of the game.

Names and faces are obscured, but small bits of information reveal characters as deep as the time loop.

This is a game of observation and experimentation and is apparently best played taking notes, with a friend as the second pair of eyes (even though it’s designed as a single-player game), and on a computer with a mouse (not a trackpad or remote control).

The biggest challenge – besides trying to get a handle on all the clues and fighting the frustration and tedium of being stuck in repetition – is figuring out the rules of the game, which are often not all that clear.

Overall, though, Twelve Minutes manages to do something very specific rather well and will definitely get your heart racing.
