The harsh reality of living in this country is that, at some stage, you’ll come face to face with crime.
Rather than simply accepting that fate, and letting the crooks get away with it, two people who were robbed at an ATM at Clifton Place, close to Durban’s Musgrave Centre, fought back.
The robbery took place on Monday at around 11AM, with Lee-Anne van Zyl, a spokesperson for FNB, confirming the incident with IOL.
“The customer was not harmed physically during the incident and the police were immediately called to the scene,” she said.
Van Zyl said the bank was co-operating with the police investigation.
Footage of the robbery shows a man climbing a gate, before gunfire rings out and money can be seen flying into the air:
According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, two people who were depositing cash at the ATM were accosted and robbed.
One of the victims had a firearm, which he pointed at the suspects and a “gun battle” followed.
The suspects then fled, with the registration of the two getaway cars unknown.
A case of robbery has been opened for investigation by the Berea SAPS.
