It’s brave for any person driving by what appears to be a crime scene involving guns, seen or unseen, to stop and check what is happening.
To get out of the safety of your own vehicle to help a victim being shot at and robbed is next level boldness.
On Monday, a taxi driver in the Johannesburg CBD was seen taking shots with his own gun in an attempt to scare off gun-brandishing robbers who were attacking a neighbouring car.
Per TimesLIVE, a video of the scene surfaced on Facebook, with users calling the taxi driver a “hero”.
The victim, driving in a white Toyota Corolla in Troye Street, was about to stop at a traffic light when all hell broke loose:
Police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo breaks it down:
“Suddenly four or five suspects approached him, broke car windows and pointed firearms before robbing him of an undisclosed amount of cash and a cellphone,” said Masondo.
The Corolla then rolled forward, bumping into the car ahead of it.
This then sparked the taxi driver to get out of his car, only to be threatened with firearms by the suspects, said Masondo:
“He drew his licensed firearm and fired shots in the direction of the suspects. The suspects fled the scene.”
The taxi driver walked away with a shot in the leg and was treated then and there.
It seems no suspects have been arrested, but the police have opened a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.
