You might be craving a more international travel experience, but since that’s not likely for the next while, it’s a good time to explore some local gems.
Honestly, there are some really amazing options out there, so you might just find yourself well and truly satiated.
You won’t even have to do too much digging, because Airbnb does a good job of listing all the goodies in one place.
The booking platform can offer anything from a luxurious escape to a quaint and unique adventure in places across the country.
Getaway has featured six of the most interesting Airbnbs in South Africa, and we will explore three of them:
Buff and Fellow Eco Coconut 6, George, Western Cape:
This escape is definitely in the more unique of categories, described as feeling “like you [are] inside a coconut on a tropical island beside a lake and overlooking the Outeniqua Mountains.”
What a combo.
At just shy of R2 000 a night, this farm stay brings all the heat with a fireplace, braai area, and a wood-fired jacuzzi.
It also has a king-size bed, sofa bed, en-suite bathroom with bath and outdoor shower, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and a delightful lounge.
Not to mention how the surrounding farm is pretty much a paradise of wildlife, with buffalo and rhino on the property.
Treehouse, Port Elizabeth:
This amazing accommodation lets you sleep in a tree, comfortably.
You don’t even need to be a child to climb this treehouse, described as “one of a kind, with amazing valley views and distant sea views”, although children are completely welcome.
At R843 a night, the Treehouse has Wi-Fi, a braai, Netflix, and two double beds decked in 400-thread count Egyptian cotton for extra comfort.
There’s also unlimited access to the farm and pool if you decide to ever come down.
Woud Blokhuis, Dullstroom, Mpumalanga:
This timber cabin is situated in the forest in Dullstroom, Mpumalanga, merging luxury with the outdoors in a way that can make anyone relax deeply.
At R2 000 a night, the cabin has one double bed and one bedroom, as well as a futon bed in the study that can accommodate an extra two guests.
Hey, I wouldn’t even mind sleeping on the couch to make it cheaper with that massive window providing a 360-degree view of the surrounding forests.
If you’re over relaxing, you can also explore the surroundings which offer restaurants, shops, hiking, flyfishing, and mountain biking trails.
You can check out more unique listings via Getaway.
Just remember to travel with COVID-19 rules in mind.
