At around 11AM yesterday morning, Cape Town City Bowl residents around the foot of Table Mountain may have heard a loud rumble.
Several people managed to capture footage of a massive boulder tumbling down one of the slopes – the Silverstream Ravine area – and I can imagine it would have caused a rise in heart rate for anybody hiking in the vicinity.
Before things get too conspiratorial, Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) spokesperson Babalwa Dlangamandla said an investigation showed the boulder’s dislodgement was due to a natural occurrence.
Let’s see some footage:

IOL with more from Dlangamandla:
“The area is open to the public and the investigation has been completed, but we kindly request users to be vigilant when using the Silverstream Ravine area; rock fall and mudslide might take place due to adverse weather condition.”
…“We urge mountain users to be vigilant when hiking, especially after adverse weather conditions such as that we experienced recently. Most areas are slippery and dangerous at this stage.”
Something to bear in mind if you plan on enjoying a stroll around the slopes at some stage today.
Stay safe out there.
