It turns out publishing classified diplomatic files online isn’t all that lucrative! Whistle blowing site, WikiLeaks has announced that they’re pausing their publishing process to concentrate on raising funds. Julian Assange claims that the financial “blockade” mounted by Visa, MasterCard and other companies, has forced Wikileaks to “temporarily suspend its publishing operations and aggressively fundraise.”

This was announced on a press conference in London earlier today.

Payment to WikiLeaks has been obstructed since November of last year by a number financial institutions, most damningly PayPal and Visa.

Said WikiLeaks spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson,

WikiLeaks has lost an estimated 95% of donations due to financial blockade. It could have received 40 million to 50 million Euros if it weren’t for the blockade.

As a result, they’ll apparently be directing most of their attention towards working around what Assange calls “unlawful financial blockades,” which includes inviting supporters to donate money via either Germany’s Commerzbank or Iceland’s Landsbankin, hence the ‘What Does It Cost to Change the World?‘ campaign seen above.
