There might be a lot of rubbish happening in the world right about now, but at least we have cute little geniuses out there to give us a semblance of hope.
We’re holding out hope for Mike Wimmer, who graduated high school and college in the same week at the age of 12, to achieve big things.
Now, our hopeful hearts are expanding as we meet a two-year old girl with an IQ high enough to be the youngest American member of Mensa.
To join Mensa, applicants must score at or above the 98th percentile on a standard intelligence test. In a test administered by a psychologist, say Kashe Quest’s parents, she was found to have an IQ of 146, placing her in that top bracket.
As per CNN, her skills include naming all of the elements on the periodic table, identifying all 50 states by shape and location, learning Spanish, and deciphering patterns.
That’s incredible – all I was doing at that age was ramming my Barbies into each other.
Her family said that her skills developed rapidly from the moment she spoke her first words, soon speaking in sentences that contained five or more words.
Meanwhile, I was calling actual rabbits “bunny parks” at that age.
She also has unparalleled curiosity, which is a very important quality in any intelligent person:
“She has always shown us, more than anything, the propensity to explore her surroundings and to ask the question ‘Why,'” Kashe’s father Devon told CNN.
“If she doesn’t know something, she wants to know what it is and how does it function, and once she learns it, she applies it.”
The family quickly realised that Kashe was incredibly advanced for her age, so they decided to take her to a psychologist who conducted the Mensa test:
“I think the biggest takeaway from us doing it was we wanted to make sure we were giving her everything she also needed, in terms of her development and natural curiosity and her disposition — and we wanted to make sure we did our part in making that happen for her,” her mother said.
Kashe’s parents are aware that she needs more stimulation than her peers, but they also acknowledge that it shouldn’t get in the way of her living a normal two-year-old life:
“She’s still two at heart, and she needs to be with children her age, and not have that pressure put on her to be older than she needs to be or act older than she needs to be,” her mother said.
The creation of a preschool is one of the ways that Kashe’s parents are encouraging her progress.
Sukhjit, her mother, has a background in education and was working with Kashe at home a lot anyway, so she opened a preschool called the Modern Schoolhouse, which currently has 12 children in attendance including Kashe:
“In terms of raising a child you want to give them these skills and this growth mindset … to become that strong individual,” her mother said.
It’s up to Kashe to set the tone for her learning as she is allowed to explore anything she wants in her own time.
With the preschool in place and the attitude of her parents, it appears that Kesha is bound to achieve great things.
