Winning R56 million is not to be scoffed at.

Rest easy in the knowledge that if I won, you would never again have to hear from me.

If I had to nitpick, and I will, the only issue I might raise is that my winnings would have been R112 million, if I didn’t have to share them with somebody else.

Two PowerBall winners have split that sum down the middle, and both have touching stories related to their families.

Earlier this week, we wrote about how one intends to use his winnings to exhume the remains of his family members and secure a peaceful resting place for them, which is a lottery win plan I haven’t heard before.

Fair play, though.

Now the other R56 million winner is speaking out, with this from TimesLIVE:

The one-year anniversary of her husband’s death is a day a stay-at-home mom will never forget, as it was on this day that she checked her PowerBall ticket and won R56m…

“I was not aware that I had won until I came across an article in my local newspaper looking for one of the R56m PowerBall jackpot winners,” she said.

She said she decided to check her ticket on the one-year anniversary of her husband’s death.

The widow has been playing the same numbers since PowerBall first launched in the country, and spent just R7,50 on the winning ticket, which was purchased from Meerensee Dried Fruits and Nuts in Richards Bay.

That’s a cracking return on investment. I spend all of my eBucks on the FNB app buying lottery tickets, in the hopes that one day I have a similar story to tell.

Don’t expect that R56 million to be spent wastefully, either:

“I’m already blessed with everything that I need. I will use the winnings to buy my son and his wife a brand new house and car. I will also help by looking after my mother financially and assist my best friend, who is going through financial difficulties at the moment. I will invest the rest of my winnings,” she said.

I don’t know who this woman is, but I’m a fan.

The next PowerBall jackpot is estimated to be around R25 million, and the draw takes place tomorrow night.
