Do you remember the London terrorist attacks that played out in April 1999?

They went on for three days and involved three homemade nail bombs.

One went off in Brixton in South London, another at Brick Lane in Spitalfields in the East End, and the last at The Admiral Duncan pub in the West End’s Soho.

Per The Tab, each bomb contained up to 1 500 nails and detonated in public spaces specifically targeting London’s Black, Bengali, and LGBTQ+ communities.

The bombs killed three people – Nik Moore, John Light, and Andrea Dykes, who was pregnant at the time – and injured 140 others, four of whom lost their limbs.

The terrorist behind the attacks was Neo-Nazi and member of far-right political groups, David Copeland, and on May 2, 1999, at the ripe age of 22, he was charged with murder.

Copeland was convicted in 2000 and given six life sentences, so he will not be released in this lifetime.

The attacks are the subject of Netflix’s new true-crime documentary, Nail Bomber: Manhunt, coming out later this month:

Here’s the synopsis:

“The story of how one man held London to ransom for 13 days in 1999. The far-right extremist detonated three bombs in Soho, Brixton and Brick Lane, hoping to start a race war. Instead, as the documentary reveals, he inspired ordinary people to stand up and take action, helping to catch him and ultimately bring him to justice.”

The doccie will feature interviews with people affected, as well as those involved in the effort to bring Copeland to justice.
