Franschhoek And Bubbles – Say Hello To The Perfect Festival

'Follow the Bubbles' will see nine very special Franschhoek venues pairing up with a Cap Classique house or two for a session of fabulous tasting, along with delicious food, live music, and loads of fun.

If you like bubbles, then champagne is as good as it gets.

Of course, you can only call something champagne if it comes from the Champagne region of France, which is why the bubbly down these parts is known as Cap Classique.

This indicates a South African sparkling wine made in the traditional French method (methode champenoise).

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s talk about the most enjoyable way to ensure you sample the finest Cap Classique the region has to offer.

Starting on Friday, April 30, and taking place over four sessions and across three days, the Follow the Bubbles festival will see nine very special Franschhoek venues pairing up with a Cap Classique house or two for a session of fabulous tasting, along with delicious food, live music, and loads of fun.

Bubbly fans can choose their desired venue, select their preferred time, and purchase a session ticket for R100, and a once-off glass ticket for R50.

Each session ticket includes three tastings, and all the venues will feature live entertainment, food for sale, and Cap Classique by the glass, bottle, and case.

Treat yourself and take a case home. Do it.

It’s a pretty spectacular way to support the wine, restaurant, entertainment, and events industries in the area all in one go.

The nine venues and accompanying Cap Classique are:

  • Franschhoek Cellar Restaurant & Franschhoek Cellar Cap Classique
  • Plaisir de Merle Restaurant & Plaisir de Merle Cap Classique
  • Arkeste & L’Ormarins Cap Classique
  • Old Road Wine Co & Gorgeous Cap Classique
  • Hey Joe Tap Room & L’Ormarins Cap Classique
  • Le Petit Manoir & Haute Cabriere Cap Classique
  • Le Bon Vivant & Black Elephant Vintners Cap Classique and Colmant Cap Classique
  • Reuben’s & L’Ormarins Cap Classiqueand Colmant Cap Classique
  • Essence & Black Elephant Vintners Cap Classique

That Reuben’s and L’Ormarins double-up sounds far too good to miss.

In order to be COVID-19 compliant, each venue has limited tickets available, so head here to snap yours up and make sure you get the session you’re after.

Better still, organise some transport, book a few sessions, and make a weekend of it, with a number of accommodation specials running in Franschhoek at the moment.

The four sessions are as follows:

  • Friday, April 30 from 6PM to 10PM
  • Saturday, May 1 from 11AM to 3PM
  • Saturday, May 1 from 4PM to 7PM
  • Sunday, May 2 from 11AM to 3PM

I back you to go all three days, and still operate at top speed on Monday morning.

After all, never let a Monday get in the way of a good Sunday.
