Today is April 20, or 420 for those with a fondness for the ‘erb.
Given that cannabis is now decriminalised for personal and private use here in South Africa, you can now light up at exactly 4:20PM, in the comfort of your own home, without having to worry about somebody ruining your high.
Over the years, the date has become an internationally recognised celebration of getting gebak, but it all started with a group of five students at San Rafael High School in California, who were known as ‘the Waldos’.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Waldos coining the term ‘420’, and thankfully the laws around cannabis have changed a great deal since they were forced to sneak around at school.
Forbes spoke with the Waldos as they celebrate half a century of friendship and cannabis culture fame.

You can read a piece TIME did on the Waldos back in 2017 here.
There’s also a great feature on Leafly about cannabis’ top five strain families, like OG Kush, Haze, and those other names your friend with all the connections rattles off.
