I was listening to a podcast the other day, and the guest, who was about to turn 40, declared that he was not ageing another year until the pandemic was over and he could celebrate properly.
In other words, a moratorium on birthdays until birthdays are fun again.
Celebrations were shut down last year, and whether or not you could gather with a few friends in a physically distanced setting really depended on which alert level was in effect in the month that you were born.
April birthday parties were virtually non-existent, or only existed virtually.
For those who missed out, here’s some good news – Café Caprice wants to make sure that this month, you can break that moratorium and celebrate in style.
Our favourite Camps Bay haunt is hosting a competition with Absolut Vodka to bring you the ultimate birthday brunch experience to the value of R5 000.
It includes some delicious food, a few bottles of Absolut Vodka, Big Serv Absolut Cocktails, Red Bull energy drinks to keep the good vibes flowing, and Fitch & Leedes mixers to turn that vodka into an acceptable breakfast drink.
The rules? Your birthday has to be in April and you have to be 21 or older.

The winner will be announced on April 8, so keep an eye on Café Caprice’s social media channels.
While you wait, it’s worth stopping in to treat yourself to a few sundowners, birthday or no birthday.
