‘Hi, it’s me, how’s the #BringBackPiers social media campaign going?’
So what’s happening is…
‘Also, did you hear about that time Meghan ghosted me? It doesn’t bother me in the least, but I have been attacking her relentlessly for years because of it.’
Oh, he cut me off. How unusual.
Well, my buddy old pal, #BringBackPiers is trending, but not exactly for the reason you would think.
Since leaving ITV’s Good Morning Britain, after a fractious final day that included storming off live on air, Piers has talked coyly about his next move.
Meanwhile, a number of petitions have been started, calling for his reinstatement – here, here, and here, for example.
The hashtag #BringBackPiers was originally started to draw support to the movement, but alas, it’s been hijacked by people sharing images of their favourite beachside structures.
In other words, piers.
Observe:
we should definitely #bringbackpiers – for fun, fishing, and fresh air pic.twitter.com/u3cUqT6O01

Hey, there’s even some local flavour:
#bringbackpiers is the hashtag take over I can get behind. This is why you don’t name your kids after types of buildings, especially if you let them grow up to be arseholes.
In other news, the whalebone pier in Umhlanga near my old house. pic.twitter.com/C1a2iHLguU

Enter the National Piers Society, which is a real thing with a website and alles, and this gem:
To be fair, we’ve been trying to #bringbackpiers since 1979! pic.twitter.com/8XNlMW3RKg

One more, right on the money, from #TeamPiers:
It’s a shame when piers are ignored and no one takes them seriously they fall apart #TeamPiers pic.twitter.com/TK0YeBk7GM

Fear not, fans of Piers the human, he will be just fine.
There’s a Rupert Murdoch-owned network or two that will snap him up soon enough.
