It is claimed five million people use the New York subway system on a daily basis. The majority, as you’d imagine, choose to sit or stand inside, not ride on the outside, as this chap did. He has, however, become the subway’s latest celebrity passenger, and authorities are hoping he doesn’t incentivise copycats.

Subway and train surfing have been around since the 1980’s, and we have our own experts right here at home. They like to perform Michael Jackson routines such as side-of-carriage moonwalking and robotic arm movements.

This guy does take things to the next level nevertheless, because he clings to the side of a carriage through a narrow gauntlet of tunnel between stations.

A former spokesman for the old New York City Transit Police Department, Al O’Leary, hopes this latest stunt doesn’t start a new trend for the New York underground:

NYC Transit’s goal is to transport people safely, not just scrape them off the track bed.

The agency was reluctant to do a lot of media about it because it just encourages foolish young people to do really dangerous things.
