I’m convinced that the so-called rift between Prince William and Prince Harry has been over-dramatised by the tabloids.
Relationships between siblings tend to shift when one or both parties get married and start their own families, but that doesn’t mean they’re in a fight to the death.
The move that Meghan and Harry made to step down from their duties as Senior Royals also meant that the brothers wouldn’t be working together as much, then there was the relocation to America, which put a bit of physical distance between them.
But, for now, let’s assume that the events outlined in British historian and biographer Robert Lacey’s biography which unpacks the alleged feud between Harry and William are true.
And if that is the case, it looks like their relationship might be on the mend.
According to The Telegraph, William is keen to focus on “purely family matters” with Harry to repair their bond.
Palace insiders say that the past year has been a source of great anxiety for the Royal Family, who were worried that Meghan and Harry would put a foot wrong and embarrass them.
You can’t blame them – history dictates that this is a common theme among senior Royals who distance themselves from Royal life, and I’m sure Prince Andrew has left everyone with some form of public relations PTSD.
But, nothing scandalous has happened, everyone came out of it alive, and apparently, they’re even coming around to the idea of Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah.
A source close to the Sussexes insisted that they would never say anything to disrespect the Queen or cause further animosity and that any suggestion to the contrary was “just ridiculous.”
“They have done and said nothing over the last year to indicate that they would be issuing any kind of personal attack on members of the Royal Family,” one said.
Last week, Buckingham Palace made an official announcement that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would not be returning to the Royal fold at all, leaving room for them and the Royals to start focusing purely on the family.
As for the brothers, another palace insider says of William:
“They had shared everything about their lives – an office, a foundation, meetings together most days and there was a lot of fun along the way. He’ll miss it forever.”
And, there you have it.
Bad news for the tabloids, but good news for William and Harry.
