The rumours have proven to be true – Kim and Kanye are getting divorced.
I can think of a million things that I care about more than this news, but the people want to know how it’s all playing out, so here we go.
The couple have tried to keep their marriage troubles under wraps but watching Kanye rampage through the world with bizarre rants, an attempt to run for president of the US, and countless other things – too many to list – it’s amazing that Kim stuck around this long.
In fact, Kanye, who according to a source is still processing things, believes that it was his presidential bid that put the final nail in the coffin.
If you were hoping for drama and outrage as Kim filed the papers, you’re going to be disappointed.
According to Elle, the couple had decided “a while ago that they were going to do this and go their separate ways”, and that there “was no dramatic final moment between them” when Kim decided to move things along.
CinemaBlend says that they tried counselling but it didn’t work. Over the past few weeks, Kim has been on holiday and spending time with her family.
Meanwhile, Kanye moved his large sneaker collection to his home in Wyoming.
They are apparently not talking at the moment but are committed to co-parenting.
Bored yet?
Let’s see if the division of assets is a little more interesting, with Forbes.
The pair signed a prenuptial agreement, which will make the splitting up of their $2,1 billion combined assets much easier.
They also each own and run a business – Kanye has Yeezy and Kim has KKW Beauty – and will likely retain ownership and income thereof.
Things get more complicated when it comes to their shared real estate and toys—including their Calabasas mansion, with an estimated $30,000 bathroom sink—but those items make up less than 5% of their collective assets.
Make it stop.
If I’d wanted to sit through the division of assets, and preliminary divorce negotiations I would have studied family law instead of English Lit.
If you want to work through the assets, you’re welcome to do so here.
I’m off to do literally anything else.
