NegoCity, a mini-replica of Johannesburg, is one of the coolest things you’ll see this week.
It’s the product of 12 years of creative and dedicated work by 26-year-old Mulalo Nego Negondeni from Mukula Village in Limpopo Province, who decided that if he couldn’t fulfil his dream of going to the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg (his family couldn’t afford a ticket), he would bring it to his backyard.
He started building it in 2008, using mud and reference images from TV and newspapers, but would later rebuild it using wire, plastics, fabric, and other recycled materials.
He told My Modern Met that it would make him “feel much better because I’ll see it every day and anytime”.
The stadium inspired him to branch out into the city, which then grew to cover the entire backyard of his parent’s home.

Take a photo tour:
When FNB heard about NegoCity, they invited him and his family to a tour of the stadium and to watch a live game.
“I want to build a very impressive soccer museum in South Africa,” he admits.
“It would be called ‘2010 FIFA World Cup Memorial Park Museum.’ This would be done by me and some of the greatest artists from South Africa and Africa. My aim is to keep the legacy of 2010 alive forever and also to create jobs for artists – empowering them to continue doing their art and get more exposure internationally.”
You can check him out on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Talented guy.
I hope he gets to realise those plans.
