When the pandemic first hit hard back in March 2020, people swarmed stores to stock up on toilet paper and beans.
It’s always beans.
Now that the general panic has died down, as more information about COVID-19 became available, and we learned to, insofar as possible, protect ourselves, I can only assume that the fortress of beans in your living room has been dismantled.
If you are one of the folks now sitting on a year’s supply of the stuff with no idea what to do with it, Weetabix (the UK version of our Weet-Bix) has a suggestion, and you’re probably not going to like it.
Twitter didn’t like it, evident in the responses to this tweet sent out by the company:
Why should bread have all the fun, when there’s Weetabix? Serving up @HeinzUK Beanz on bix for breakfast with a twist. #ItHasToBeHeinz #HaveYouHadYourWeetabix pic.twitter.com/R0xq4Plbd0

That’s a hard pass from me.
Say what you want about the horror pictured above, but as Sky News points out, as far as advertising goes, it attracted a lot of attention.
That included responses from corporations and social organisations through to the general public, who set to work creating memes.
Let’s start with a few gems from the ordinary people out there:

Tinder, the UK National Health Service, Domino’s Pizza, and others also had a go, and even Weetabix seemed keen to get in on the action.
We’re almost scared to ask what the verdict on pineapple on Weetabix may be…

This great exchange between Nando’s and KFC deserves a mention:
Let’s set aside our differences to prosecute this under the Geneva Convention.

You know its bad when things get political:

You’ll find plenty more to chuckle at here.
Not the most appetising suggestion, but at the time of writing the Weetabix tweet has been shared upwards of 120 000 times, so they’re definitely on to something.
