It’s ‘awards season’, which means that we’re going to be hearing “it’s an honour just to be nominated” often over the next few weeks.
Earlier this month, the full list of Golden Globe nominations was released. We can only assume the judging panel was inebriated when they made their decisions because Emily in Paris received two nominations (best series and best actress), while actual credits to the industry like Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods received no nominations at all.
Thankfully, this year the Oscar nominations seem to be a little more on the ball, with nothing overly offensive in line for a statue.
Shortlists for nine categories have been released, with more to come.
For now, a proudly South African shout-out to My Octopus Teacher, which made the shortlist for Best Documentary Feature.
