Pool owners are used to the laborious task of fishing out leaves and other debris.
Even if you have a Kreepy Teacher to assist (“what happens if I just went, every day?”), you still have to wield that pool net to keep things in tip-top shape.
Up in Moedwil, a small town in the North West province, you can end up with more than leaves to deal with, as the Breytenbach family found out this past weekend.
Angel Breytenbach says that before she let the animals out of the house on Friday morning, she checked the CCTV cameras monitoring the pool area, and that was a shrewd move.
A crocodile, perhaps displaced from a nearby due to the heavy rains that accompanied Cyclone Eloise’s trail of destruction, had taken up residence in their pool.
Angel and her husband Jaco then called a local security company, and the Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation reports that the animal was safely removed by animal specialists and taken to a safe location.
In due course, it will be released back into its natural habitat.
Below, you can see the CCTV footage of the croc slipping in at night, followed by the removal the following day.
Around the 1:10 mark, there’s a cracking Ozzie accent, followed by everyone getting a moerse skrik, which is pretty amusing:
Angel uploaded the full video of the crocodile capture and removal to her personal Facebook page.
Between the North West crocodile and the Fourway Hippo, we’re not doing much to change the minds of foreigners who believe we have wild animals in our backyards.
Oh, and don’t forget about the caracals:
