I don’t understand American football and have no intention of learning how the game works, which means that watching the Super Bowl this Sunday (or Monday morning, South African time) is pretty low on my list of priorities.
South Africans prefer rugby, so if we’re going to tackle each other, it’s going to happen without layers of protective gear and helmets.
That’s just how we roll.
There is, however, one aspect of the annual event that’s worth looking at.
If you want to score an advertising spot during the game, according to Associated Press, you’d best be prepared to drop around $5,6 million on a 30-second slot.
So, companies tend to put a hell of a lot of effort into making the most of it, resulting in some pretty spectacular ads.
You’ll have to wait for the dust to settle on Monday to see the majority of the ads, but a few have been released early, a few have teasers out, and we can expect more over the course of the week.
Here are five that we liked, and thought you might like, too:
Cheetos – featuring Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Shaggy:
Shaggy’s iconic ‘It Wasn’t Me’ like you’ve never seen or heard it before.
General Motors – featuring Will Ferrell:
GM has released three teasers for its Super Bowl ad:
Apparently, Will Ferrell hates Norway?
Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade – featuring 2020
Accurate depiction of the year, but I still wouldn’t drink anything made by Bud Light.
Uber Eats – featuring Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World
I think we can see where this is going.
Vroom (Car Dealership)
Tide – featuring Jason Alexander from Seinfeld
You can check out more here.
Keep an eye out for previews, as we make our way towards Super Bowl 55 (or Super Bowl LV, if you’re going old-school).
