That feeling of joy every time Netflix uploads new content doesn’t last long.
It’s over in one binge-watching session.
So, if you’ve found yourself, in this neverending lockdown, scrolling through Netflix unable to find anything to watch, you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’d exhausted the platform.
Turns out there’s a whole other side to Netflix, hidden from you by algorithms that presume to know what you like.
Via The Independent, there is a solution to this – a set of codes that will unlock the stuff that you didn’t know was there.
Here’s how it works:
These codes correlate with some pretty specific genres, ranging from “Romantic Foreign Movies” to “B-Horror Movies”, and they’ve been put in one place for you to scroll through.
To visit each genre’s webpage, all you need to do is input the four-digit code into your web browser after the following address: http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/
As you’ve probably figured out, this only works on the desktop version.
I’m sorry app users, you’re on your own.
You’ll find the full list of codes here, or you can peruse the core categories and sub-categories below:
Action & Adventure (1365)
Children & Family Movies (783)
Classic Movies (31574)
Comedies (6548)
Dramas (5763)
The range of sub-categories alone should be enough of an indication that you’ve been missing out.
And, there are so many more.
To recap: if you wanted to check out a political documentary, you’d type http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/7018 into your browser.
Or, for an action thriller, http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/43048.
You get the drift.
Sorted.
