South African Nominated For FIFA Goal Of The Year – Here’s His Competition [Videos]

Hlompho Kekana is no stranger to scoring long-range beauties, having been nominated for the same award back in 2016.

Hlompho Kekana is no stranger to scoring long-range beauties.

In March 2016, he struck from inside his own half for Bafana Bafana against Cameroon, and he was duly nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award that year.

Kekana didn’t win, but he’s in with a shot again after his bullet for Mamelodi Sundowns against Cape Town City on August 20 last year.

That strike is one of the 11 nominees for this year’s FIFA Puskás Award, reports ESPN, with public voting continuing until December 9.

At that stage, FIFA will announce the three finalists, with the winner chosen based on public voting (50%), and votes from football experts (50%).

The victor will be revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in Zurich on Thursday, December, 17.

I reckon Kekana’s goal gets bonus points for thumping the inside of the post on its way in:

If you want to vote for Kekana’s goal, head here.

Should he win, he would join the ranks of Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar, James Rodriguez, and Mohamed Salah.

Pretty decent company to keep.

At the time of writing, these were the four most-viewed Puskás Award nominees on FIFA’s YouTube channel, in descending order:

I feel like Son Heung-min is in with a real shot at taking top spot, but competition is stiff.

You can find videos of all the nominees on FIFA’s YouTube channel.
