An ice-cold bevvie on a hot summer’s day – it’s good living.
You’ll be pleased to know that 2oceansvibe declared summer open earlier this week, although, in an ‘unprecedented’ move (there’s that word again), it was really by default.
There is no disputing the results of the Sunday Times Top Brands survey, though, which is regarded as the leading barometer of consumer sentiment towards brands in the country.
The methodology takes into consideration brand familiarity and awareness, the perceptions of users and non-users, as well as the size of brand presence in the market into account.
Come out tops and you know you’re doing something right, so props to South Africa’s favourite beer, Heineken, for a fourth year running.
Bizcommunity reports:
“Winning in the beer category of Sunday Times Top Brands for the fourth year in a row is a testament to the love South African beer drinkers have for the brand,” says Lauren Muller, marketing manager for Heineken®.
“Like the iconic red star on the green bottle, this win acts as a stamp of approval for their favourite tasting premium beer and we are tremendously proud of this achievement,” adds Muller.
Well played, team Heineken.
Our favourite sun-inspired beer, Sol, is part of the Heineken family, so I reckon we should also raise a drink in their honour.
After all, it is summer, and Sol does come with a unique backstory.
In 1899, in a brewery near Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico, a brewer created a light, refreshing beer made from the water closest to the sun.
The story goes that, as the brewer held up the beer, a ray of sun peeped through a hole in the roof onto the transparent bottle and, in honour of the sun, inspired the name Sol.
The connection runs even deeper, and now Sol brewed at Zoeterwoude brewery in the Netherlands, will be produced using renewable energy from more than 9 750 solar panels on the brewery roof.
Never have the words ‘Taste The Sun’ rung more true.
