There are those who say that Donald Trump’s decision to run for US president was cemented by the roasting he took from Barack Obama at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner.
The then-US president laid into Trump, who had long been touting the false information that Obama was born in Kenya, and you could see there was a great deal of pain behind Donnie’s eyes.
The current president wears a smile, but given what we now know about his tiny little ago, this would have stung.
If you’re keen to relive that roasting, skip ahead to the 2:40 mark:
Well, Barack, this sure came back to bite you in the arse, because the man who took over from you has spent the best part of four years trying his utmost to undo your legacy, and undermine democracy at every turn.
Now that Trump is set to be booted from the White House on January 20 (no matter how many frivolous lawsuits Rudy ‘the human sweatbox’ Giuliani cooks up), Obama can finally put all of that behind him.
What better way to do that than a lucrative Netflix deal, where you produce a comedy sketch show based on a book describing the chaos of the transition between the outgoing Obama administration and the incoming Trump presidency.
More via the Independent:
Through their multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix and their company High Ground Productions, the Obamas will bring ‘The G Word’ to the streaming service. Filming is due to begin in the new year.
The series will be loosely derived from Michael Lewis’ book The Fifth Risk, the rights of which they bought in 2018.
Expect the all-caps rage tweets from Donald to be just as entertaining as the sketch show.
Lewis also wrote Moneyball and The Big Short, with both books being adapted into successful movies.
The Obamas’ deal with Netflix is proving very lucrative, with two documentaries already under their belt, one of which was based on Michelle’s memoir, Becoming.
Financial terms around the couple’s deal have not been disclosed and there are no concrete estimates about the ballpark figure.
One thing is for sure – it will involve plenty of zeros.
Barack’s most recent memoir, A Promised Land, has also been flying off the shelves and will net him a very tidy sum.
They’re private citizens now, so fair play to them.
