When does a fight become a brawl?
For example, News24 calls what happened between pupils from Edenglen High School earlier this week a “street brawl”, and TimesLIVE calls it a “street fight”.
We’ve gone with brawl, given that there at least three separate showdowns going on, involving around 10 pupils.
According to News24, the fight was started due to a row over R25 which one pupil owed to another.
Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi shared footage of the brawl on Twitter, saying that he was now headed their way to investigate:
Edenglen High School, you just invited me to be at your school tomorrow morning. It’s a date! It can’t be! @educationgp @Steve_Mabona pic.twitter.com/OQ9GTWGicA
— Panyaza Lesufi (@Lesufi) November 10, 2020
Lesufi was there yesterday and met with various representatives from the school.
Some of the pupils seen brawling were not registered with the school, which Steve Mabona, the Gauteng education spokesperson, said they were looking into.
He added:
“The school governing body undertook to immediately take necessary disciplinary action against all involved in the fracas. They will also provide Lesufi with their report”.
Hang on, now it’s a fracas?
Tough to keep up these days.
