Jumping out of an aircraft isn’t high on my bucket list.
Jumping out of an aircraft without a parachute doesn’t feature at all.
It takes a special kind of bravery to take something like this on, and by all accounts, John Bream must be immune to fear or lacking in some basic survival instincts.
The former paratrooper, known as ‘The Flying Fish’, flung himself out of a helicopter yesterday – and all in the name of a good cause.
According to Sky News, he set out to break the current Guinness World Record for the highest freefall into water from an aircraft.
In doing so he hoped to raise £5 000 for All Call Signs and Support Our Paras, two charities that provide mental health support for veterans.
His GoFundMe page has just exceeded that amount, so on that front, it’s mission accomplished.
He jumped from 40 metres up and fell for about three or four seconds before hitting the water at about 128km/h:
He smacked his head on impact and was unconscious for a few seconds when his team pulled him into a boat.
It clearly didn’t faze him. He’s the super happy one in the blue hat:

Per The Guardian, Guinness World Records hasn’t yet confirmed it as a success:
A spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of John Bream’s attempt today and we wish him a speedy recovery. Due to the nature of this activity, we only accept applications from experienced stunt people or rely on research to verify the record retrospectively.”
Bream was shipped off the hospital as a precaution, even though he was spotted walking around and chatting to his team despite the accident.
He’s made of strong stuff.
Stronger stuff than most.
