If the alleged armed robbers at San Ridge Square, Midrand Centre in Jozi, thought driving away from the scene of the crime was going to be the easy part, they had another thing coming.
When they tried to exit the parking lot, they were confronted with what can only be called an army of car guards and citizens who decided to take things into their own hands.
Clearly, South Africans are gatvol of the armed robberies that seem to be happening on a weekly basis these days.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said Tshwane police became involved when a message was sent to SAPS officers to be on the lookout for the suspected vehicle heading to Pretoria, reports Pretoria Rekord.
Before that, bottles were thrown and windows were broken as the alleged crooks tried to escape:
I spotted a good arm on one or two of those guards.
SAPS was told to look out for a vehicle that had taken a beating.
Miller said Lyttleton SAPS members were travelling on Nellmapius Drive in Centurion towards Botha Avenue, when they noticed the vehicle.
“The police members noticed the vehicle driving with a smashed front windscreen. When it passed, we noticed the back windscreen was also smashed,” he said.
They believe that it’s the same car from the robbery and have taken two suspects into custody.
“The men will be charged with possession of stolen bank cards, while we are also investigating the possibility of linking them to the incident that occurred in Midrand.”
Car guards one, alleged armed robbers zero.
