The image above doesn’t do the high-speed car chase that took place on the N12 in Johannesburg on Tuesday justice.
A hijacker allegedly made off with a Toyota Fortuner in Protea Glen, Soweto, and the Metro police gave chase.
For the most part, stories about hijackings tend to end with the vehicle owner fighting for their property or the perps getting away, so this is a nice change of pace.
And, by pace, I mean extreme speeds and some skilled weaving through traffic.
Per TimesLIVE, footage from security company Suburban Control Centre captured the whole thing.
Things really start getting interesting at the 1:25 mark:
It’s pretty dramatic, but if you really want to see some action, check out the chase between the SAPS Tactical Response Team’s helicopter, a Ford ST, a motorbike, and a white Nissan 1400.
In the video above, you will have noticed that at one point during the chase, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ramped down an embankment. He tried to run away but failed.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says that the driver has been taken into custody.
Props to the police for apprehending the suspect.
