With another Oktoberfest coming to a close in Munich on Monday, the hung-over locals deserve to start boasting about their accomplishments. 7,9 million litres of beer were consumed by festival goers, despite this year’s price per litre rising to 9 Euros (R96, 00). Beeeeer.
2011’s total beer consumption topped 2010 by half a million litres, with fights involving the traditional mugs, or steins, down to 58 from 62. Additionally, a whopping 118 oxen were consumed.
Munich Mayor, Christian Ude displayed a positive attitude, saying, “The mood at the Oktoberfest was excellent, right up until the last day.”
What a legend. I don’t think I saw Patricia de Lille at the We Love Real Beer festival.
With the 1985 Oktoberfest still holding the record for turnout, attracting 7,1 million people, compared to this years 6,9 million, a spokesman said that business was good.
Well, when you sell R758, 400 000 worth of beer, you can probably assume that. Well done Munich.
