Oh dear – just when we thought we’d seen the last of the supposed feud between Harry and William, someone released a ‘biography’.
They’re coming in hot and fast these days.
The factory keeps churning out books about Harry and Meghan.
Now there’s Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult.
British historian and biographer Robert Lacey – a royal expert who acted as a historical consultant for The Crown – delves into the relationship between Prince Charles’s two sons.
Tatler rounded up some of the more interesting alleged scenes described in the book.
William didn’t join Harry and the Queen for lunch ahead of the Sandringham Summit
The Sandringham Summit was the meeting that took place when Harry and Meghan decided to relinquish their roles as Senior Royals.
It was all very tense.
William reportedly enlisted the help of Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, to try and convince Harry not to marry Meghan
I’ll let NewsAU take this one:
The Duke of Cambridge, 38, reportedly called in Princess Diana’s brother after “brusque” and “peppery reactions” to his own attempts to talk Harry round.
“He didn’t blame his uncle. He understood why Diana’s brother should want to help.
“Yet he was furious with his elder brother for dragging other family members into the row.”
Back to Tatler.
The Royals didn’t like the way that Archie’s christening was handled
The couple broke with royal protocol by insisting on privacy during Archie’s birth.
(If the Brits had it their way, they would be in the delivery room – all of them.)
They then refused to release the names of the godparents.
Harry wasn’t happy about the Royal portrait that he wasn’t included in
There’s an official portrait of the Queen, William, Charles, and George.
In other words, all living heirs to the throne.
Lacey says that “the plan of depicting the direct line of royal succession was enthusiastically supported by Prince William”.
This was apparently interpreted as “sending a message to his younger brother. It was as if Harry had become un-brothered.”
Okay…not sure how those two things relate.
The Queen wanted Harry and Meghan to move to South Africa
Lacey claims that the Queen worked with Private Secretary Sir Christopher Geidt and former diplomat Sir David Manning “to frame a plan… to get Harry and Meghan out of the country for a decent spell” so as to ‘give everyone a breather”.
It was hoped that a solution could be reached that would ‘offer both honour and responsibility to the couple by handing them some role in her beloved British Commonwealth of Nations — a highly personal token of trust’, while appeasing ‘Harry and Meghan’s wish to live an “ordinary” existence.’
It was thought that ‘Modern South Africa… could be just the spot.’
They certainly would have had less trouble with the media here.
