Volkswagen South Africa announced yesterday that it’s upping its game with a powerful addition to the Amarok range.
From November, bakkie enthusiasts will be able to purchase the new and improved Amarok Double Cab, which the carmaker is billing as the most powerful to date.
It kicks the old Amarok out of the ring with 30Nm more torque, and that’s not all it has going for it.
Before we take a closer look at the specs, let’s hear from Volkswagen, per BusinessTech.
“The biggest development with this addition to the Amarok range is under the bonnet. The most powerful Amarok distinguishes itself from the rest of the range through the new 3.0-litre V6 190kW TDI engine, which has 25kW more power as well as 30Nm more torque than the outgoing 165kW derivative,” it said.
Over to TimesLIVE with more on what’s under the hood.
If turning power and speed is your thing, you’ll be pleased to learn that the new Amarok is beating the competition with 580Nm worth of torque.
There’s also an overboost feature that can momentarily increase the engine’s maximum power output to 200kW for around 10 seconds which is great for overtaking.
In other words, say goodbye to the days of plodding along behind a slow mover on those long stretches next time you take a road trip.
The bakkie comes in two models, the Highline, and, if you really want to take it up a notch, the Extreme.
In the Highline model line, a host of features come standard, such as the Vienna leather seats, winter package (seat heating), increased GVM from 2.8 to 3.0 tons (including heavy duty leaf springs), Bi-Xenon headlights, front and rear Park Distance Control with rear-view camera, climatronic air-conditioning as well as the 18-inch Manaus alloy wheels.
Optional features on the Highline are the Discover Pro Media system, which includes satellite navigation, rubber floor covering and 19-inch Milford alloy wheels.
These features are also on the Extreme, but it comes with a few extras including Special Edition Nappa leather seats and a Discover Pro Media system, which includes satellite navigation.
If you want to snap one of these up, here’s what it will cost you depending on which model you choose:
Yeah, so you’re looking at throwing down roughly R1 million.
For the sake of comparison, Nissan offers a 2,3D Navara Stealth AT DC, which starts at R714 300, boasting 140 kW and 450 Nm of torque.
So, if we’re going on torque here, the price point on the Amarok makes sense.
