If you came here for a scandal, you will be disappointed.
Ewan McGregor’s divorce is pretty standard, especially when a couple share a fortune accumulated over a number of years, resulting from a number of high-paying acting jobs.
There are also kids involved, which means custody arrangements and maintenance payments.
In other words, this isn’t a Johnny Depp/Amber Heard situation.
In 2017, McGregor and his then wife, production designer Eve Mavrakis, split up.
A year later, McGregor filed for divorce, which launched a legal dispute over how the couple would split their finances.
McGregor believed that he was paying too much child maintenance, while his wife said that he was paying too little.
On to the present day and, according to The Daily Mail, McGregor took a massive financial knock following negotiations before the divorce was officially finalised after 22 years of marriage.
Mavrakis will reportedly get child support of around £12 000 a month and £30 000 of spousal payments, as well as a portion of the royalties McGregor made from the films Angels And Demons, The Men Who Stare At Goats, and Moulin Rouge.
It also emerged that production designer Ms Mavrakis will keep the £5 million family home in Los Angeles, as well as around £400,000 in cash, jewellery and five of McGregor’s 34-strong car collection, which includes his cherished vintage blue Volkswagen Beetle.
He also has to hand over half of the royalties he earned from starring in the Star Wars movies.
Prenups, people. It might not seem romantic when you’re planning on taking your vows, but neither is a lengthy court battle, expensive lawyers, and a bank account in arrears.
On Friday, the former couple did manage to put their differences aside to celebrate two of their daughters going off to university:
The pair will share custody of their youngest daughter, Anouk.
