I know very few people who would say no to a Rolls-Royce.
The brand is synonymous with luxury, wealth, and style, having produced some of the most impressive cars in the world since the company was created in 1973.
So, I have no idea what it was thinking when it decided to make a car inspired by cryptocurrency.
You know, Bitcoin and the like.
Mashable sums it up:
Rolls-Royce’s new limited edition Wraith Kryptos is about to dig into the lucrative ultra-rich crypto nerd market.
Their words, not mine.
The Wraith Kryptos is more or less a regular Rolls-Royce Wraith, only it’s adorned with an encrypted puzzle that only two people at the company know the answer to.
Owners who are interested in cracking the code will be able to submit potential answers through a members-only Rolls-Royce app called Whispers.
The car is also adorned with numerous green details that resemble code, which will appeal to owners of Alienware laptops and fans of The Matrix. True to the car’s mysterious branding, Rolls-Royce says that the car’s Anthracite base color has a special effect, visible only in sunlight.
Okay, so it’s a Wraith with extra steps.
The car’s designer, Karin Lehmann, said this about why they named it the ‘Wraith Kryptos’:
“The name Kryptos is derived from Ancient Greek, referring to something unseen, hidden and coded, mythical even. Ciphers can be traced through millennia, capturing the imagination of some of the world’s most brilliant minds.”
This might seem a little gimmicky (it seems a lot gimmicky if you ask me), but cryptocurrency has created more than a few millionaires over the years.
I’m sure a few of them would be interested in a puzzle car with interior lighting that will likely prove distracting and dangerous on the road.
Enjoy the cheesy, ‘mysterious’ whisper echoes in the promo video:
If you want to “dissscover the khhhee…ee…ee…ee”, you’ll have to act quickly, as the company is only making 50 of these machines.
There’s no word on the price yet, but standard Wraith models start at around $330 000, so don’t expect the Kryptos to be cheaper than that.
Or, you could just buy a puzzle block and solve it in your car.
