If you care, there has been a lot of buzz lately about how to pronounce Charlize Theron’s name.
She claimed in a recent interview that everyone is getting it wrong, even South Africans.
The actress says that it isn’t the hard ‘T’ Theron that we use here. It also isn’t pronounced with the soft ‘th’ sound and an emphasis on the ‘on’ part common in America. It doesn’t rhyme with ‘heron’, or ‘gone’.
Instead, she claims, it’s pronounced ‘throne’ and has French origins.
Fancy.
If you’re desperate to get it right, for some reason, here’s a video.
Whatever the pronunciation, Theron is starring in a new movie, The Old Guard, arriving on Netflix on July 10.
Over to Mashable:
In the trailer for Netflix’s The Old Guard, Nile (KiKi Layne) gets kidnapped by Andy (Charlize Theron) in what turns out to be the most intense job interview ever.
Andy is part of the old guard — a phrase no one says in the trailer, but you get it — a group of fighters who have been taking on secret missions to protect the world ever since the Crusades. Nile may be a new recruit, but she quickly learns that most of the team has been on the job for centuries and effectively immortal.
Based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Blythewood, The Old Guard also stars Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Van Veronica Ngo, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A glimpse of what’s to come:
Definitely one for the action fans out there.
Again, July 10 is the date this one drops.
