Here at home, we are battling a surge in confirmed coronavirus cases so serious that there is talk of once again entering a hard lockdown.
Yesterday saw an additional 6 945 infections, and 128 deaths, across South Africa, but those numbers are nothing compared to what’s happening in the US.
The country recorded more than 47 000 new cases yesterday, the death toll now exceeds 130 000, and White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci reckons that unless serious measures are implemented, that number could reach 100 000 cases each day.
Yet still, time and time again, Americans are being filmed refusing to wear face masks, and suffering full-blown meltdowns when out shopping.
Now the anger has made its way to restaurants, with one particularly nasty incident ending in a brawl at Saltgrass Steak House in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Reporting below via NewsAU:
[Customers] were filmed in a heated dispute, with one woman in a mask complaining other diners weren’t respecting social distancing guidelines…
A police report from the Little Rock Police Department said the woman in the mask had complained others had been sitting too close to her…
“I think if just someone is telling you to stay away from them, you probably shouldn’t get near them, and maybe if you don’t want to get coronavirus, don’t go to a restaurant,” witness Seth Crews said.
South African restaurants are now allowed to accept sit-down customers, provided they adhere to a strict set of guidelines, but I doubt we’ll see anything like this.
There’s just something uniquely ‘Merican about this brawl:
If that video doesn’t work, here’s one from Twitter:

No charges were filed by anyone involved, although two men were given citations for battery.
In the last week alone, the state of Arkansas has seen COVID-19 cases increase by 50%, so a degree of physical distancing is probably prudent.
Just try not to start a brawl over it.
