Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were married for just over a year before she filed for divorce in 2016.
That’s when the proverbial Pandora’s box was opened to reveal what can only be described as a toxic and dysfunctional relationship.
Since then, the court cases have raged on.
Heard accused Depp of physically abusing her, outlining horrific details in a Virginia court filing in response to his $50 million defamation lawsuit against her last year.
Depp then fired back with pictures of him in the hospital with a cigarette burn to the face, claiming that Heard had attacked him when she found out about his plans to put together a post-nuptial agreement.
It’s 2020, and the fight continues on a number of fronts, most recently in a defamation case brought against the tabloid, The Sun, by Depp over allegations that he was violent towards Heard.
According to The Telegraph, Depp alleges that Heard has extra-marital affairs with none other than Elon Musk and James Franco.
The 57-year-old actor is suing the tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, and its executive editor Dan Wootton over an April 2018 article which referred to him as a “wife beater”.
The Sun’s legal team made a last-ditch attempt to strike out Depp’s claim yesterday, arguing that he had breached a court order by not handing over what were referred to as “Australia drugs texts” between Depp and his assistant, Nathan Holmes.
David Sherborne, representing Depp, also asked for “all communications” between Heard and a contact saved in her phone as “Rocketman”, who Depp claims is Elon Musk, and between her and actor James Franco.
Depp made these claims last month already, and there was speculation that James Franco would be called to testify. He also claimed that Heard once had a threesome with Elon Musk and Cara Delevingne.
Sky News has more on what Depp’s lawyers say happened between Franco and Heard.
Mr Sherborne also made reference to CCTV footage taken from the lift of Depp and Heard’s LA penthouse on 22 May 2016, which show the actress with a man alleged to be Franco.
He said the “intimate” meeting between the pair took place “hours after the final incident of alleged abuse”, when police were called to the apartment.
Depp’s legal team is now asking for the “disclosure of all communications over a particular period in 2016” between Heard, Musk, and Franco.
Then there are the drugs. Messages sent to Depp’s assistant asking for “happy pills” and “whitey stuff” allegedly show the 57-year-old actor trying to obtain drugs in Australia.
These messages, which Depp’s team failed to provide, were supposedly sent just before what Heard claims was “a three-day ordeal of physical assaults”.
The alleged “three-day ordeal” in Australia – when Depp is said to have been taking MDMA and drinking heavily – is one of 14 separate allegations of domestic violence, between early 2013 and May 2016, that NGN relies on in its pleaded defence to Depp’s claim.
Depp denies everything, and Heard is accusing Depp and his lawyers of trying to intimidate her.
Here’s the really gross part:
David Sherborne, who is defending Depp, said evidence of “multiple affairs” is relevant as it would prove “false motive” for the alleged violence Heard says she suffered due to “Depp’s supposed paranoia and mistaken belief” that she was unfaithful.
To be clear, whether or not paranoia is ‘justified’, that’s still no reason to become violent towards someone.
And the case goes on.
