Hey Siri…
How does Apple feel about the Black Lives Matter protests happening all over the world?
When asked to take a public position, the company, along with fellow tech giants Google and Amazon, pledged their support for the movement.
It’s that simple. When it comes to choosing sides on an issue like systemic racism, you choose the side that’s fighting against it. Superbalist – are you taking notes?
Most tech companies have released statements about the current protest action, but few have actually used the words ‘black lives matter’.
Per The Verge, Amazon, Apple, and Google have programmed their voice assistants state and respond to the phrase.
The voice assistants also have responses to the question “do all lives matter?”, referencing a right-wing refrain commonly used to criticize the Black Lives Matter movement.
Apple and Google’s assistants more emphatically refute the question than Amazon’s Alexa, which is surprising given Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos last week publicly corrected a customer who angrily used the phrase in an email.
Here’s what happens when you ask Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri if black lives matter, and if all lives matter.
ALEXA (AMAZON)
SIRI (APPLE)
Nicely done, Siri. I like that you took it a step further in response to “do all lives matter?”
GOOGLE ASSISTANT (GOOGLE)
Alexa, decent try, but room for improvement.
