Like most business sectors, the adult entertainment industry suffered during the first two alert levels of lockdown.
An easing of restrictions, however, inspired one strip club to find a creative solution to the problem of not being allowed to open their doors to the public.
You’ve probably been hearing about the humble drive-thru more than usual over the past couple of months. In Joburg, you can get tested for COVID-19 from your car, and then there’s Germany, where drive-in autodiscos have kept the party alive while maintaining physical distancing protocols.
Now, in Port Elizabeth, you can take a break from the mundane of daily life and head on over to Candy’s Revue Bar – a drive-thru strip club.
Here’s The Citizen:
The drive-through offers shows while selling takeaway drinks and snacks.
During drive-through shows, performers strip but now do so wearing face masks and gloves. The performers perform on outdoor stages in a closed off area which drivers – who have had their temperatures checked, can park next to.
The ‘revue bar’ has also made provisions for dancers who want to work from home by launching an online website where they can perform on screen, with the details to be found on their Facebook page.
Business Insider SA breaks down how the drive-thru works.
A dancer dressed as a nurse will greet you upon arrival to take your alcohol order, which will then be brought to your car.
You can chill outside the ‘strip-thru’ while they’re getting it together, or take in a floor show while you wait (that costs extra, obviously, with R250 buying you drive-thru access).
Note that you can’t drink in your car. Alcohol is for home consumption only, and you shouldn’t be drinking in your car even when there isn’t a national lockdown.
You can see some images of what this all looks like on Business Insider SA.
Owner Charl Muller says the dancers will use props, and there will be different themes, to keep things “interesting”.
Sounds to me like Candy’s might be on to something, as long as the dancers and public are kept safe.
Mavericks, take note.
