Yes, ‘Blurred Lines’ is a horrible song by Robin Thicke, but that’s not what we’re talking about.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
If you’re still here, we’re taking a break from all of the unnecessary royal scandals cooked up by the tabloids to talk about public speaking and how Prince William manages to get through it.
Thrilling stuff.
Over to The Daily Mail, which has clearly decided to start printing a few positive stories about the Royal Family after they teetered dangerously on the edge of having their access to royalty revoked.
The Duke of Cambridge says he managed to overcome his anxiety about giving important speeches because his weakening eye-sight meant he could no longer see people’s faces properly.
Prince William said crowds eventually became ‘just a blur of faces’ because he would not wear contact lenses while working.
…the Duke admitted it helped him overcome his nerves while giving speeches.
Smart and far more effective than imagining the audience naked. There are some things you just can’t unsee.
The Prince spoke about his anxiety when speaking publicly in a new documentary, Football, Prince William And Our Mental Health, about mental health and football (you probably figured that out via the title) involving the Prince’s work with the initiative, Heads Up.
The Prince was followed for the past year for the BBC film as he travelled around the country promoting his Heads Up initiative, which aims to raise awareness about mental health and encourage football supporters to speak about their problems or support a fellow fan.
[An] avid Aston Villa fan revealed football has become more important to him as he has got older: ‘You know it’s weird because, I’ve always loved football but I love football more now than I’ve ever loved it before and I don’t know what it is, whether it’s because I’m a parent now and I need football more in my life, I don’t know maybe it is that.’
The Prince is doing some important work to alleviate the stigma around mental health, and for that we commend him.
And, if you wear glasses, you now know how to tackle that next public speaking engagement.
Just make sure you’ve memorised your speech.
