These days, it seems as if you can’t open a news site without coming across an article citing an open investigation into law enforcement officials for something or other.
Cases open for investigation at the moment include allegations of misconduct or violations of lockdown regulations, mishandling children, and the use of unnecessary punishment tactics while enforcing lockdown restrictions.
Earlier today, we brought you the video of a brawl in a police station in George.
Since then, a new investigation has been opened after a video surfaced on social media of a police vehicle escorting alleged drug kingpin Yaganathan Pillay, also known as ‘Teddy Mafia’, to his home following his release from prison on Monday, reports IOL.
Take a look:

Pillay was arrested at the end of April in a police operation at his Taurus Road residence, where SAPS found unlicensed firearms.
In addition to the firearms, police seized R700 000 cash as well as gold and silver coins estimated to be valued at R250 000.
Pillay was released on R5 000 bail in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court after a three-day bail hearing and ordered to appear at the local police station twice a week.
He faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Prior to his arrest, a series of hitman-like murders took place in Shallcross and surrounds, after his son was gunned down on March 12 in a drive-by shooting.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says that he is aware of the video and that they have found the officer who was driving the SAPS vehicle.
“They are investigating the matter to ensure that he is brought to book. We will not tolerate such corrupt individuals within the SAPS.”
“What we saw was quite disgusting. We will ensure the member is dealt with severely,” Naicker said.
The investigation into Pillay’s activities is ongoing.
The SAPS officer who escorted him home has not been named.
