On the morning of April 9, renowned Cape Town criminal attorney William Booth survived an attempted hit on his life.
At around 7:10AM, two men wearing masks opened fire whilst Booth was in his garage in Higgovale, a suburb in the Cape City Bowl. Their shots missed the target, and Booth was unharmed.
Since then, police have scoured CCTV footage from the area looking for clues as to who was behind the attempted hit on the 65-year-old, and they have now released images of their suspects.
Here’s TimesLIVE:
…police spokesperson Lt-Col Andre Traut said CCTV cameras filmed the two men for three days before the attack.
“They were dropped off in a white Hyundai Creta, possibly a 2018-20 year model,” he said.
“The vehicle was not fitted with number plates in the front or on the rear, but had a temporary paper number with a GP registration attached to the rear window.
“One of the suspects was wearing an ostentatious ring on his right hand, and one was wearing Kappa branded clothing.”
Here are the images SAPS has shared with the public:
I wonder what’s on that piece of paper? I get the feeling it’s not a list of the best restaurant specials in the area.
Police have asked that anyone with information contact Colonel Eddie Clark on 082 469 1531, with the suspects, wanted for attempted murder.
SAPS Traut added that all information would be treated strictly confidentially.
Booth is not the only attorney in the area to come under fire. Just months earlier, on February 12, Jakes van der Merwe survived a hit on his life in Gardens.
Police also released footage of that suspect, asking the public for help.
UPDATE: News24 reports that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Booth:
…five men and two women were arrested on Wednesday night in Woodstock, a few hours after releasing the photographs.
“The vehicle used by the suspects at the time of the incident was also recovered and confiscated,” said Colonel Andrè Traut on Thursday.
“The suspects are currently being questioned by detectives, and court appearances are yet to be scheduled.”
No further details were given regarding the charges for each suspect.
