Adam Catzavelos, Penny Sparrow, Vicki Momberg.
All the above have one thing in common – crimen injuria.
It’s a punishable offence in South Africa to be a racist halfwit, and yet the slightest provocation seems to set some people off.
This is often followed by social media backlash, criminal charges and, in the case of Vicki Momberg, multiple chances to show some decency, but instead acting like a lunatic.
The latest racist rant to go viral comes to us from Gauteng
Siphosethu Ngomane describes the incident on Twitter, saying she noticed that the car ahead of her had lost control, and slowed down to ensure a safe following distance and to avoid a massive accident.
The car ahead of her then hit a lamppost, with the driver appearing to convulse in the front seat.
She stopped to help the driver, who was unconscious. While she and her passenger tried to call emergency services, another lady crashed into the back of Ngomane’s car.
Over to Cape Talk for what happened next:
The woman driving the car verbally abused Ngomane and then devolved into using the K-word.
She also threatened to beat Ngomane up.
Ngomane captured the entire thing on video, with a level of calm that deserves an award.
Brace yourself – the language here is not for the faint of heart:
However, this is not a thread created to discuss the “great things” happening in this county. I have reached out to SAPS regarding this matter and their response has been nothing but…(distasteful to say the least). pic.twitter.com/lMoA47bTAU

I can only assume that this is what happens when folks down their swords in Kyalami Estate and venture out into the world.
Ngomane has laid charges against the woman, and submitted her footage to the South African Human Rights Commission.
Thankfully, she also seems to have reached people in a position of power, including Faith Mazibuko, a Member of the Executive Council in the Gauteng Provincial Government and MEC for Community Safety:
It’s likely that the woman in the video could be looking at a lengthy battle with the law.
UPDATE: Yeah, she’s in hot water:
This just in dear friends!! This lady has been arrested and will be going to court tomorrow! I would first like to thank @FaithMazibukoSA and her team for standing behind me during this time and also thank @SAPoliceService For working around the clock on this case. https://t.co/L8To35w6gQ

Let’s hope justice is served and this racist ranter gets hit with the full might of the law.
