Like most sports fans, the past few weeks have involved a great deal of documentary watching, and some trips down the YouTube highlights wormhole.
Oh, you haven’t watched the final 15 minutes of the Springboks’ epic 1998 Tr-Nations come-from-behind win against the All Blacks? Spoiler alert – James ‘Bullet’ Dalton scores the winner, back when he wasn’t headbutting security guards.
Good times.
As for cricket, the less said about some of the Proteas’ recent test series in India the better, but back in the 1999/2000 season, skipper Hansie Cronje led South Africa to a 2-0 test series win over the Indians.
That was followed by a 2-3 ODI series loss, perhaps best known for being the series where Cronje offered money to certain players to underperform.
Still, let’s bask in the glory of the test series victory, with the first match played in Mumbai:
A serious head of hair on Jacques Kallis back then, our current batting coach, and some great mettle shown by Mark Boucher, the current Proteas head coach.
You can find the scorecard for that test here.
To Bengaluru we go for the second test, and a far more comprehensive victory:
Man, I miss Allan Donald.
You can see the scorecard for the second test here.
Both sets of highlights above come from the YouTube channel robelinda2, which is a treasure trove for cricket fans.
Before we go, let’s enjoy more Donald:
You bloody ripper.
Have a good day, cricket fans.
