If it weren’t for The Crown, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Queen Elizabeth II came out of the womb as a tough old lady with a stiff upper lip and a penchant for Corgis.

After all, most of us can’t remember a time when she wasn’t on the throne.

(I reckon Captain Tom Moore remembers her father, King George. The war vet turns 100 on April 30. To date, despite his age, he has raised almost £28 million for the NHS).

The old monarch has reached her 94th birthday, has presided over Britain for 68 years, and is likely too stubborn to die, so we’ll be celebrating her birthdays (both of them – more on that later) into perpetuity.

If you need further proof of this, remember that she’s been dealing with Prince Philip for decades, so she’s capable of anything.

Per The Guardian – to celebrate the Queen, the Royal Family decided to remind us all that she too was once a child with some rare private footage of her as a baby, a toddler, and a teen:

A message accompanying the video said: “To those of you also celebrating your birthdays today at home, with or without your loved ones – we send you many happy returns.” It thanked the public for its birthday messages and wished the Queen a happy birthday.

The Queen spent the day in isolation (apart from all the servants) at Windsor Castle, where she’s been physically distancing since COVID-19 hit Britain.

There were no traditional gun-salutes from Hyde Park or the Tower of London, for what is believed to be the first time in her reign. They were cancelled in line with the Queen’s wishes as she believed they would be inappropriate in the current circumstances.

The flying of the union flag from government buildings and town halls, as is also traditional, was taking place only where it could be implemented within government guidance on social distancing.

She’ll be celebrating with family members online.

While her birthday is April 21, she normally celebrates it a second time on the second Saturday of June.

I guess when you’re Queen, you don’t have to settle for one birthday a year.
