Now is the time for a sense of perspective.
Yes, us sports fans would love to be able to kick back and enjoy some live action, but there are more important things to consider before we can begin to dream about the return of our favourite leagues and tournaments.
Sorry, Liverpool supporters – you’ve waited 30 years for the Premier League title, so another few months won’t hurt.
For SuperSport, though, the show must go on, and they have multiple channels to fill and no live sport to count on. Because of this, says chief executive Gideon Khobane, a great deal of thought has been put into keeping things entertaining.
We’ve all seen the famous 438 ODI highlights multiple times, and I will assume you’ve done your civic duties and rewatched the 1995, 2007, and 2019 Rugby World Cup finals, but we need more.
SuperSport, according to a recent release, plans on having each channel covering iconic moments from years gone by:
Grandstand, which will run from Monday to Friday from 5PM, highlights and recalls some of the most epic and dramatic events from recent years.
SuperSport 1 will today (Monday) focus on famous golf stories from years gone by:
Golf – The Masters 2018 Highlights: Day 1 – 13:00
Golf – The Masters 2018 Highlights: Day 2 – 14:00
Golf – The Masters 2018 Highlights: Day 3 – 15:00
Golf – The Masters 2018 Highlights: Day 4 – 16:00
Golf – Grandstand: Golf -17:00
Golf – Ryder Cup 2018 Documentary: One Family – 21:00
Golf – The Open Championship Highlights: King Louis is crowned – 22:30
Golf – Chronicles of a Champion Golfer: Rory McIlroy – 23:00
Golf – Chronicles of a Champion Golfer: Jordan Spieth – 23:30
Today’s Grandstand, starting from 5PM, will be a walk through the majors from 1949 when Bobby Locke became the first Southern African to win a major, and paved the way for seven others to lift golf’s most prized trophies.
On Tuesday, SuperSport 1 will focus on cricket, before Wednesday covers a variety of sporting codes, Thursday covers football, and Friday rugby.
You can also find the iconic ESPN 30 for 30 series playing, and available on Catch Up. I would recommend the John Daly episode, which is a fascinating look at one of golf’s most mercurial talents.
Speaking of mercurial talents, download Maradona – riveting watching.
Cricket fans should also get stuck into The Test, available on Amazon. I signed up for Amazon’s free seven-day trial yesterday and am already three episodes deep (there are eight in total).
For insight into how a changing room and squad at international level operates, especially in the wake of a cheating scandal that shocked the world, it doesn’t get better.
See, staying indoors and binging on sport is still an option, so be a good citizen and do just that.
